Day #1 of "Welcome to Scotland" Drinking

Thursday was a good day. Liz and I slept in till about 11 since we were absolutely shattered (tired), then we finally drug ourselves out of bed and headed up to the wee town of Bridge of Allan. First stop was Mailers (the company renting us our flat) to pay our deposit. I have to admit that the money here still feels a bit like Monopoly money, so it wasn't hard to give up 550 pounds because it didn't feel real! Took a picture anyway, since I'm sure it will be the only time I hold that much money in my hand at one time. I had another celebrity moment - much like at the airport with our chauffer - except this time I felt more like a bad-ass rapper flashin my bling.

Anyway. Next stop was the Bank of Scotland, where we were so kindly informed that they wouldn't give us a debit card until we had been here for 6 months! So we got right up out of there and walked one block down the street to the ROYAL Bank of Scotland, not to be confused with the REGULAR Bank of Scotland. The ROYALS agreed to give us a debit card so we made appointments to go back next week and set up our accounts. Up next was a convenience store to top-up my cell phone (add minutes to it, it's a pay as you go thing). Shout out to Beth, who hooked me and Liz up with free cell phones the day we arrived!! Where would we be without my wonderful cousin Beth? Homeless and cell phone-less, that's where!

After all of this errand-running we were pretty thirsty, so we popped into the closest pub and had a pint. Beth and Keith met up with us after work and we had a few more pints. Then Beth's friend Andy arrived from an 8-hour bus ride in from Portsmouth, so we decided to grab a bite to eat. We sat down at the restaurant attached to the pub and Beth and Keith's old roommate Ryan showed up a few minutes later! Supper was fantastic, I had the best macaroni and cheese I've ever tasted in my life!!

After dinner we decided to welcome Andy to Scotland properly, so we had to go out for a few more pints in a few more pubs. It was an awesome night of family/friend bonding!

The pubs closed at midnight (since it was only a Thursday) so we walked home the long way to see the beautiful scenic route of the river by Beth's house. We got home and weren't quite ready for bed yet, so we sat around drinking and chatting about the philosophical shortcomings of modern journalism. And I'm pretty sure porn came up too. We called it a night at around 3 a.m. and finally hit the hay (by hay, I mean the mattress on the floor).
